2003 9-3...No more hatch- (leave it to GM)

A year from now, I turn my second Saab (a 2000 9-3 five door) into the dealer. My first, a '97 900SE 5-door, and this have been great. I leased these cars for several reasons:
1) I always like Saabs cause they were "different"
2) The price was more then right
3) The hatchback is the smartest idea in automotive design
4) The Saab with a hatch has a trunk big enough to fit Rhode Island into.
So, now I read that the hatch is history.
Brilliant. Then why do I see five door Ford Focuses around? Even moreso, Hyundai has a model that looks like a baby 9-3 and they are simply all over the place. Now, I'm not comparing Saabs to low line Fords and Hyundais- just the design. It seems American doesn't hate hatchbacks, they just want ones that look good.
Saab won't sell more cars- they'll sell less. Why should I lease a Saab now? Three of my reasons have been shot to hell with this decision. I could get a BMW, a Volvo, a VW, any of the Japanese sports sedan, even a Mercedes.
The new sports sedan is a great looking car, but I want that hatch. Nothing is more annoying then when a trunk opening is an inch too small to fit that box or other item into.
I hope Saab pulls their head out of their ass and realizes they're about to make a big mistake.
