This has all got very technical, particular the stuff about price differentials which don't really apply given that I'm buying direct from the factories. Basically in Belgium a new 320i, 93, Merc C 200, Audi A4 or Jag x type are all but a kick in pants from each other in terms of cost. I'm not 50, so the Merc doesn't appeal. The Jag is the most expensive and I'm not certain its worth the extra. The Audi is also dear. It's a fearsome looking piece of metal, but the interior is cold and it just doesn't float my boat. That leaves the Beemer and the Saab. Beemer has an image problem - everyone has one and owners tend to be flash harry or unimaginative. But the Beemers and Mercs hold their value like nothing else. The latest 95 looks like a Nissan Primera thanks to the decision to ditch the chrome grille and there's always the danger the 93 might not be the biz. And they lose their value quicker than dot.com shares. Guess I'll drive it and see...
