Gamla Stan (Old City) is great to visit Posted by Randy Thatcher [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: I'll be in Stockholm next week driving one..., brian@saabcenter.com, Wed, 10 Jul 2002 19:34:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It's beatiful in the old city.
I was in Sweden 5 years ago. I returned about 2 years ago with my wife and we really enjoyed it.
One little thing that blew us away... They have a rhubarb soup as a desert. See if you can find it. It's like a cold fruity soup with maybe a few berries on top. It's nothing like an American desert.
[sorry to all you folks in Scandinavia, but...] Nordic beer seems to lack in quality (except Aass from Norway) and it's expensive. That said, I love Tuborg only because I had my first one hanging out in Nyhavn in Copenhagen, drinking a brew on a summer day watching ships, people, and the beautiful city. In my opinion, Belgium does beer right.
There's a history museum that's pretty slick near the edge of Gamla Stan. I went expecting to see all the Viking helmets and the like. They didn't have any, but the old royal and military relics were neat to look at.
Also, the Vasa museum is nice (old ship). Skansen is a nice open-air museum showing the history of living in Sweden. We liked also enjoy some modern art exhbit, but for the life of me can't remember the name of the place.
I hope for you're sake you're flying SAS business class. I hear they have nice massages, and it's a total luxury ride. Nothing can be worse than my coach trip to Sindelfingen (mercedes-benz) from Atlanta.
