drove a 2k2 model today (long?)

My car was in the shop today for a number of things being done to it. My loaner was a 2002 9-3se (mine is a '00 9-3se) and I was interesting in seeing how it drove/felt/sounded, etc.
In the past I had driven the '01 9-3 (not the se) and I really liked it, but I missed the heat/ac controls like the se, the sport steering wheel (can buy to add on I think), and most annoying was that when I pivoted to get out of the car on the cloth seats I'd get a static shock once I touched anything.
So I was expecting this new one to be great, and was curious. I got in and the whel felt much loser while driving (not that "gears in the road" feel like the previous two year models I had driven). The seat belts felt flimsy. I HATE the console flip up cup holder thing. The engine felt more sluggish, but the ride was much quieter and fairly smooth.
I'm hoping the quiet ride can be attributed to the Pirelli P6000s on it since I just ordered 4 P7000s for my car today.
I was surprised that I didn't like this new one, and it makes me rethink my end of lease options coming in Feb of '03. I wasn't planning on buying it, but I really love my car and enjoy drving it, and if they are going to change things enough that I notice them like that, then it might just be worth keeping it.
the new sport sedans look fun (like the front of a 9-5 and the butt of a volvo), but I'm hesistant to try those until they have been out for a year or so - my dad got a '99 9-5, the first year they were like that and he had many problems that were found to be resolved in the next model year.
anyway, those are just my thoughts - curious if anyone has any thoughts in response.
