Wigwam told me that it didn't void the warranty as long as the car wasn't used for competitive purposes (ie racing) which leads me to believe that there may be a "gray" area for modifying your car when it comes to warranty issues. So what happens if you run the guy next to you at a red light and your turbo lets loose? Is it covered?
This is why I am going with BSR and keeping my stock ECU. For the $250 core charge for the ECM it isn't worth it to me to risk having the warranty voided because Saab or the dealer feel like doing so. I'll put the stock ECU in the car when I have to take it in for warranty work.
I know people that have had some "gray" issues with dealers and warranty work when they had bolt-on modifications to their car. As I understand the law in my state, as long as you don't open up the engine and modify the internal components of the engine, the warranty should still be honored. I just don't want to give the manufacturer a "way out" of honoring the warranty.
Should be interesting when Saab starts offering Hirsch modifications through the dealers in the USA next year. Somebody told me that Hirsch will have to take some of the proceeds from the sale of the parts and give back to Saab so Saab can increase their estimated warranty expenses on their books.
