the original photos are really big (almost 1 meg each)... i need to scale them and reupload them... i'll do that a little later on today...
so the deal with onstar is that it sends its audio in through a separate connector marked "tel" into the back of the saab radio... the sony model i purchased has a separate AUX input, in addition to having a bus audio input (which is used for the XM audio and an external CD or MD changer... that's why i chose this unit.)... so what i did is to tap into the OnStar audio wires and then run them to a couple of RCA plugs... these go into the AUX input on the Sony headunit... OnStar continues to work just fine... the only feature you lose is the ability to automatically have the radio switch to AUX (OnStar) when there's an incoming call... which means that you can use the OnStar phone service for outgoing calls, but not for incoming calls (unless you're waiting for a call)... I thought about wiring up a separate small amp that would provide the OnStar audio and then using the TEL MUTE signal wire (which is in the Saab) to mute the Sony when a call comes in, but in the 9 months i've have my Saab i've never received a call (or needed to) on OnStar, so this doesn't seem like a big deal.
cheers!
