Yes, on the highway, lower octane will increase mpgs. In the city too, but perhaps not something that you will resolve with the SID.

Lower octane will reduce power an perhaps boost. But it will not harm the engine. You will need to clean the injectors more often with the lower octane fuels, as the higher octane fuels have more additives to keep the injectors and combustion chamber clean.

The turbo engine does not have a very high compression engine, so running on lower grade fuels is not difficult to do. But this is probably not true of all turbo engines. Many modern high compression engines will run on low octane and will detune to suit the fuel.

Choice engine oils will be much more significant for engine life than choice of fuels.

Do use high octane fuels to get the power from the turbo engine.
