I've learned in the 9 months I've owned a Saab that a lot of things are "normal" for a Saab that aren't "normal" for any car that I've ever owned before.

Examples:
1. Smoke out of the tailpipe at start-up.
2. Rattles that drive me crazy from the rear of the car.
3. Rattles from the dashboard that drive me crazy.
4. Oil leaking from the head gasket between the cylinder head and the engine block.
5. Oil leaking from the valve cover gasket.
6. Difficulty putting car into first gear.
7. Hard/difficult 2-3 shifts.

I find it hard to believe that these are all "normal" things for any car, yet alone a Saab. If they are, Saab builds very poor cars. If they plan on targeting a more "mainstream" market with the 2003 9-3 and continue to have to explain away these problems as "normal", then they won't sell many cars because the mainstream buyers that they are targeting will take their money and go back to BMW, Acura, and Lexus.

I've owned some pretty "specialty" moderate to high performance cars in my lifetime including a Oldsmobile Quad-4 powered Beretta GTZ and a Yamaha powered Taurus SHO, and never had as many issues with both of those cars combined as I have had with my Saab (which only has 9000 miles on it). I put over 200,000 miles on those other 2 cars, and I'd take either one of them over my current ride.

It's very sad, and the worst part is that the 800 number customer service department could care less about resolving the problems with my car. Basically they have told me to go "pound sand" in so many words.

I'm in the market for a new car for my fiance, and she asked about a 9-5 sedan. I told her "no way" and to look at other cars such as the Acura TL Type S and Volkswagen Passat W8 along with the 3 series BMW.

Sorry, but the truth is the truth...and sometimes it hurts all of us!
