For me the biggest improvement in technology over the last 10-15 years has been the technology of quality and customer satisfaction. Almost all the tech availible in a 2003 was around in one form or another back in 93. No one has learned that better than Saab and GM. The quantification and measurement of the reality of tolerating zero defects means the latest Saab will likely be the most reliable produced yet. Even beyond the 9-5.
The 9-5 introduced in '99 were very good and aren't showing an achilles heal for the first year. Sure there have been improvements and I hear of some engine management problems that were solved, but a first year 9-5 has an excellent service history according to Consumers Reports.
