One big electrical connector on the end, 4 torx screws holding it down. Spark plug boots are built into it, so just pull it up. Mine pulled up without too much force. Use your judgement & don't use a big crowbar.
Safety? I guess I wouldn't take it off when the engine is running ;) Seriously, it zaps the plugs to clean them, so I'd wait a minute or so after shutting off the engine. If you don't want to burn yourself then you're welcome to wait even longer.
