Another torque steer question - not important, but I would be happy to hear an explanation
we recently bought a new 9-3. Love it and no real complaints. It is a petrol model. We did a couple of all-day test-drives in a diesel model before buying this one. When driving the diesel I really noticed the torque steer under hard acceleration. I don't seem to get nearly as much with the petrol model - in fact, I hardly seem to notice it at all. Now, is this because of some difference between the diesel and petrol models? Or is it because I wss driving the test model slightly (?) harder than the car I now own?
The same also goes for the turbo "kick" - the surge was very much more noticeable in the diesel - I am more than happy with the acceleration etc. with the new car, but I almost miss the "surge" feeling - Once again, is this because of an expected difference between diesel and petrol engines or is it that I drove the test model harder? In fact, for a while, I even worried that perhaps the turbo wasn't working...
Anyway, any explanations to a non-techie such as me would be appreciated.
And heh... I am so happy about having a Saab after so long waiting (and my 2.5yr old son is just the same - he can spot a Saab as soon as one appears...)
