Kymman,
900, rather C900 refers to THE Saab of Saabs, the one you will most often see on the road. Production was ended in 1993 except for the convertible which ended in 1994.
9000, the cousin of the C900, but based on another platform, as such an 'upscale' Saab.
NG900, produced from 1994 thru 1998, new style 900. Rushed to production w/ GM oversight. Still a decent car, though some know it can be problematic.
9³ is the follow on for the NG900, produced from 1999 to 2002 with the conv soldiering on thru 2003. Many improvements over the NG900.
9-5 is the 1999 to current successor of the 9000. More 'GM' than the SAABie 9³.
'S' generally denoted a non-turbo charged/base model Saab C900 or NG900.
'SE' generally denoted a sportier, turbo charged version.
'SET' was a NG900 designation when not all SE's were turboed, this means 'SE turbo'.
99 was the precusor to the C900. They looked similar but different. Production ended in 1978 (right?) Some turbo models toward the end.
Sonnet, Sonnet II, and Sonnet III, and something all SAABers are waiting for the Sonnet IV. Sonnets (through III) were produced up to 1973 as a sports car with differing engine types and styling through the years lending to the differing names. We are waiting for the return of the Sonnet (the IV), hopefully we are not wait for Godo.
Don't forget the Viggen. The sportiest SAAB to date. Uprated model of the 9³ family. SAAB did not include a few necessary pieces (LSD for sure), but a quite capable car as all SAABs are.
If you have any question, please just ask. There is a lot more to it. This is just a preamble.
later,
tony
