Today I test drove the new 2003 9-3. First I drove the Linear automatic with all the option packages including the sport suspension. The car was fun to drive, comfortable and fast. The new manual mode was fun. My only complaint was that the sport suspension was a bit of a rough ride for my aging 58 year old body. The car was quite nimble. I loved the digital display high up on the dash.
I have not driven a stick shift for years except on test drives in the BMW 325 and the Audi A4. Both were quite uncomfortable. However, the 9-3 stick was a different story. I was right at home after 2 minutes, and the clutch was easy to engage and the tranny seemed real smooth. This was also a Linear but with no options and without the sport suspension. This ride was much more comfortable for me. I found the styling quite appealing.
Even the manual seat was comfortable and easy to adjust.
