The rack is mounted to the flexy firewall. That's not good.
Because of that, the tie rods connect to the wheel assembly up high. Not good either as it allows for more flex throughout. If you put a level on the tie rods, at least on mine, you can see that the tie rod is actually higher at the wheel assembly than where it connects to the rack. This means that any movement upward results in toe out. Saab has admitted that mounting the steering rack to the firewall is a design flaw and has scrapped the idea completely for the new 9-3.
