Good Saab day yesterday. Drove new 9-3 SS... Posted by Todd [Email] (#958) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Todd) on Thu, 10 Oct 2002 08:52:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The dealer in Grand Rapids (Fox Saab, Keenan R.I.P.) just received two 9-3's yesterday. I was fortunate enough to get out there to test drive the 5-speed "base" model. Impressions:
1. The car in terms of fit-and-finish and interior ergonomics is great. I was very impressed with the level of materials used in the vehicle. Definitely better than my 1999 9-3 SE. I like the new manual adjust seats. Kinda like my girlfriends 2000 Jetta. The extra storage in the middle between the front seats will be welcomed. The info center and high mounted display on the dash is great. Just wish it had one-touch UP on the windows. BTW, are these cars going to have an electronic compass?
2. Performance was very good for only 175 hp. The car corners better or is at least less unstable when taking corners fast. The engine felt light and the turbo response was instant. The shifting was on the money too.
3. I really like the looks of the car. It is more conventional looking than previouse Saab's (of course, what Saab isn't this way since the OG900?) but was very handsome and clean.
Overall, if I didn't have another 10 months on my lease (and with my miles, all 71,000 of them, I'll have to buy the car or really lose my butt), I would very likely purchase the wagon in high-performance trim.
