P6000 SV Follow Up - Treadwear Clarification Needed

Hey all,
I need some clarification on measuring tread depth on my Pirelli P6000 SV tires. I'm measuring a conservative 4/32 of remaining tread in the center channel of the tire. Measururing any other part of the tread toward the outside of the tire, I get lots more, like twice as much. This is consistent across all 4 tires.
Where is the proper location for me to be assessing the remaining tread? Conservatively I want to say that the minimum depth in the middle is the one I should be concerned with, but that doesn't appear to be indicative of the general wear on the tire.
On the P400s on my 900, there are three major channels, all of which have the same depth. The P6000 looks to have been designed differently.
Thanks,
'Roo
