1. Set as the max boost limit, overriding boost control functions of ECU, to give high boost but zero knock protection (other than timing retardation)
--- Thats about it. However, the ECU also conrols knock with mixture enrichment. This mod really needs to be complemented with reduced restrictions to the intake and exhaust systems. Search and read deans<underscore>list. Negatives: pressure overshoots, moreso in cold weather, and boost pressure taper or droop at high RPMs.
2. Set below max boost, which continues to be governed by ECU, and use to keep wastegate firmly shut during spool up at which point MBC valve opens and allows ECU to control boost in normal way. This gives quicker spool up, no increase in max boost but maintains full ECU 'safety' functions.
--- The MBC is connected in line with the BPC, block its bleed orifice and install upstream of the BPC valve, or downstream with its orifice left open. I don't know which works best. This will allow for higher boost in the 1st two gears as well. You will get the APC boost reduction protection features if you don't set the MBC too high. This is quite safe and max boost is not increased. No much need to worry about heat and intake and exhaust restrictions. No negatives. No massive power increase either, however the engine will be vastly more responsive and therefore faster.
Turbo spool up is improved in both cases.
