My '90's manual says straight, & I thought my '99's said the same thing (but I don't have it with me). Traditionally, bias ply tires were crossed & radial ply weren't due to the nature of radials to "take a set" based on rotation direction, angle of load, etc. I asked a tire shop a couple of years ago about it, & they said it didn't matter any more, but that was before Firestone's repeat of their Tire Blowout Event.
Crossing evens out wear patterns, making them last longer. I keep 'em all on the same sides, just to be safe...
