Ok, sorry I was a bit stubborn at first. I thought that you just assumed that the engine had to be running to get out of reverse, so you didn't try it. You keep saying key to 'start' position, but it only needs to be at 'on' for that mechanism to release the lever.
Another clarification (picky, picky)... You DISengage the clutch by pressing down the pedal. I know its picky, but it changes the little details of your explanation. So, even if you press the pedal down, your lever still sticks in reverse?
So far, I thought that your brakes were seizing. But the sticking shift lever just didn't fit. Now jimmy's new scenario (sticking 4th synchro) is different, but it still doesn't quite fit the sticking shift lever. If you could get it into neutral, then start the engine, it would 'bang' when you let up the clutch pedal in neutral. If you could do that, it would positively narrow it down to the transmission.
If the engine's not running, & you try to shift out of reverse into neutral, the only thing you're moving is the reverse gear & its shift fork. Any other gear with a seized synchro hub doesn't have to move. So the seized part has to be associated with reverse? So while its not exactly the same, it might be related. This would explain the 'bang' when you move the car, but it doesn't explain the lever stuck in reverse.
It would be nice to find the particular set of circumstances to allow the dealer to observe the problem repeatedly. Did they park it outside overnight? I don't know what else you can try. Without a garage, you might be stuck in reverse (hehe). I believe that with a key in the ignition, you can lock the doors, but you can't set the alarm. You might be able to block it in between the house & another locked vehicle. Careful you don't drain your battery, either.
Your other ideas...
Bleed the clutch? I don't think this has anything to do with it. You say the clutch pedal feels normal, & you can press it repeatedly without making or preventing the 'bang'. Bleeding the brakes & clutch is something that should be done anyway every couple years. Don't expect it to fix this problem.
Broken motor mount? Could be, but if the dealer tried to figure out your problem, I think they would have to be real dummies to miss a broken mount. Besides, this would cause continuing troubles after the 'bang' has broken free. I suppose you could make a point to ask them to check.
