Another reason for the turbo silencer?

I just pulled mine out of my '99, & it was unexpectedly oil-soaked. I got on the BB & searched, & found this is normal. I also found that it's use seems to have been discontinued sometime during the '99 MY, & wondered why. Then I got to thinking about it's location in the hard pipe.
The Theory That I Have, Which Is Mine:
The rubber hose before the hard pipe was oil-coated, but the one after was completely dry (39k miles on the car). If I wanted to keep blow-by condensation out of the IC, having a "sponge" at the lowest, coolest point before the IC would be a nice, passive way to do it; no evaporators or condensers needed. Since this is my 1st turbo, I'm guessing that having an oil coating on the internals of your IC reduces the effectiveness of its already-circuitous route. So why would Saab remove such a simple solution? I'm guessing for the same reason the TBTC was changed about the same time: for the improved response it gives, which was more important to sales than keeping the IC internals clean.
Any opinions on my theory?
