Selling at 60k sounds reasonable. Leasing 2 cars seems excessive ($$), but fun, because having 2 new cars to play with is jolly good fun.
I prefer this: Have a "nice" car and a "beater."
Example of "nice" car: 2003 Saab 9-3 SS
Example of a beater: 1998 Passat 1.8T, 60k miles.
Even cheaper: 1995 Camry, 60k miles.
Use the "nice" ride for passenger duty, impressing others, a night on the town, joyrides, etc. For commuting alone in traffic, etc, (hi miles-low enjoyment potential), drive the beater. Keep it till 150,000 miles. The cost per mile will be far lower with the beater. And you will be shielded from the high potential cost of running new cars that much.
My dad runs new Euro sedans at 30k miles / year. That is very expensive.
