I have a lease ending in Feb.
I know that if I go over my allotted miles (36K over 3 years), then I am charged $.15 a mile that is over that.
What happens if you are under that?
I have a new job that only requires me to drive about 60-70 miles a week, so I'm going to come in at the very least 3000 miles under the 36K allotted to me.
I would assume that the case is they are very strict if you go over, and then totally ignore the fact that you don't reach the mileage.
the reason I ask is that I am assuming they are going to try to dick me over on every little thing when I turn it in (there are tiny wear and tear things on it, but nothing big IMO) and I was hoping that if they say I owe $XXX to fix what they see as huge issues, then I could say, "well, technically you have a car way under mileage, 3000miles X $.15 = $450 - so I don't want to pay.
but I'm gonna assume they will just laugh at that and say it is my problem for not using the miles.
what sort of wear and tear do they find excessive? I have brand new tires on the car (Bridgestone Potenzas), slight scratches on the wheels from the curb, minor scratches on the paint and bumpers from street parking, and a tiny (size of the last joint of my pinky) ding and a little tiny bit of rust on that ding (smaller than my pinky nail).
on the interior, there is a small hole (the size of a nail) in the back of the passenger seat leather, and there is a visible wear in the driver's seat leather - no hole, but you can see white spots where the leather has worn.
oh, and one tiny little ding on the hood that happened about a week ago when I parked under a tall tree that apparently was a walnut tree and it dropped a nut on the hood, leaving a small ding there that you can only see at a certain angle if the light is right.
any ideas on what they will say about this sort of thing?
thanks,
Eric
