I have chased leaks in some surprising places in trunks. One wierd source for water can actually be the tail light gaskets. Water can be drawn in as you drive through bad gaskets. I can't tell if you are driving this car very much.. but it is a place to look.
A great diagnostic tool is to get some *powder* based aerosol (like athelete's foot spray - don't laugh) and spray it on to the suspected area where you might want to track water movement. Remove any carpet or soft trim and leave it out whle you spray the metal work... Any water droplets seeping across will leave obvious trails... I did this with a Honda Accord trunk.. and it showed that the back window and the rear taillight seals were leaking...
I have a convertible too.. and I don't think water would leak in from the trunk opening.. since the sheet metal is such that water can't really get over the lip.. but it flows downward... I sure hope it isn't from the top mechanism somewhere.. please keep me posted!
Good Luck!
