Steering wheel play issues / problems?

1999 9-3SE 5spd w/ 51k miles, bought used at 41k.
The steering was a few degrees to the right when I bought her. Nothing an alignment couldn't fix I thought. So I took her for one about 5 months ago. Slight improvment, but still slight to the right. More specifically, when driving on a road with horizontal camber to the left (driver's side) the steering needs to tilt several degrees to the right in order to remain in a straight line. When driving on a road with horizontal camber to the right, the wheel needs much less of a twist to the left.
It all felt much better when I first installed my SAS bar. But now it seems to have "drifted" back to the old condition.
Just got back from another alignment / check. The shop is one of the best alignment shops in town and they swear the car is set / adjusted properly. All they did was rotate the tires. But she's still a hair to the right on flat roads, seems like similar behavior otherwise.
Also, there seems to be a slight "dead zone" on the highway. Not completely dead as in lose play, but not as tight as some other FWD cars I've driven (names omitted). I can wiggle the wheel just a very little bit without the car actually moving ... or so it seems.
I'm guessing I just have to live with this or install various components of the VRK.
Any suggestions? I'm running 16" factory rims and Gislaveds at around 33 psi.
Thanks,
Nemo
