But I think you could shorten it to "TXG"! (Just don't short yourself on that oil!)
I guess it's good to know that the engine's preventing itself from becoming a grenade, but I'm sure you're more than a little concerned about when it will happen next. Do you think you could recreate the occurrence? If you know how to cause it, you're better able to avoid it happening again.
You say you weren't told how long the overboost protection lasts. Were you told why you initially lost power? I was told that, starting with the '02 MY, the throttle control was electronic rather than cable-actuated, so I can see where this would give quicker throttle response & faster turbo spool-up. (I did get an '02 for the day when my '99 was in for its 30k svc, & it was noticeably quicker than mine.) What I don't understand is why it would kill the majority of power immediately; it seems like this would create a greater potential for accidents if you can't gun the engine to get out of somebody's way. (Maybe it's "dealer programmable" in the ECU?) My '99 has always been slow off the line, so I try to keep that in mind when I'm in it. I do suspect I've got a diverter valve problem, so I'm gonna try to get ahold of the tools to test it this weekend.
Will you be digging into this any more? Tell us if the dealer decides to widen the scope of your "need to know" classification!
