I am not talking about racing on the streets, but an actual test drive at the dealership. It is good to know that there are some interest in my review of the new G35 coupe. Here it is.....

I finally found a dealer that would let me test drive the new G35 coupe. Every single one at the dealership were sold, demand is exceeding the supply. So had to try one out after all the raving reviews I‘ve read so here is my take. Bare in mind this is my opinion, so don’t get too worked up.

Drove it on windy roads most of the 10min test drive and it truly handle good but not great (IS 300 was better). The touch and feel of the interior is evidently Japanese, leather not the best, lots of plastic and console buttons had a cheap feel to it (hard to explain but it just not the same).

The orange speedo needs a little getting use to but love the steering wheel. Steering respond is sharp and feels tight on corners. Little body role but I expected less on a highly praised chassis.
The exhaust note was the best part of the car, nice nice nice. For a car that is 4inch wider than the Viggen it was tight inside, headroom perfect for my 5ft 10 frame, if you are 6ft up, no room in the back with lounging seat angle. The shifter is short but clunky, maybe because it was brand spanking new had problems engaging in 4th. Clutch was high, long travel making it difficult to shift fast and smooth (just need some getting use to). Stereo, great sound with many features.

Leaving the best for last. For a sports coupe the acceleration was disappointing considering the specs I‘ve read. It FELT slower that the Viggen (not much) but that rubber band, turbo, thrown back to your seat feel were absent. In 4th at 80km step on it and it felt sluggish, had to keep the car in high revs most of the time for the fun factor, maybe I’m just too use to the turbo on the Viggen. The car looks fantastic, exterior and interior, great value for a car this caliber but not enough to give up the Viggen.

After we return to the dealership I took the sales guy out for a drive in my Viggen and boy was he surprised, he couldn’t believe I had a 4cycl with 230hp, he is now a Saab fan.
