I had a 9-5 Aero auto on loan since Friday AM. Returned it to the dealer this PM. Made arrangements to test drive 9-3SS upon arrival. They had a fully loaded auto waiting for me. Going in, my mind was set upon a new 9-5 Aero (Fall 2004) since I was soooo impressed with the loaner (600 miles on the odomoter)!!!! Well contrary to some published reports, the 9-3SS, 2.0t is no slouch even with the automatic. Again this had 17" rims and sport suspension. I spent little time looking for fit and finish problems but it really was sharp. I drove it in both the full auto and manual shift modes. The 9-5 Aero had this feature as well but the 9-3 shift was with the stick rather than on the wheel. I like the stick shifting used on the 9-3 better. The paddles may be something you get use to. The 9-3 was pretty quick and as responsive in town as the 9-5. The 9-3 definitely handled better but it is a different car isn't it. Emergency brake was no problem and it didn't pinch any fingers. This arguement must be like when they put doors on cars and journalists complained about getting their hands caught in the door (DUH!!!!). Overall very pleased with the 9-3SS and can't wait to get mine. May not need 210hp but intro package will be gone by then. Oh well.
