Never has and probably never will. I have never in twenty five years read one article in any of these magazines where the writer impressed me with his knowledge about automobile safety. Not once. All they ever talk about is active safety, which is a cop out for not spending the dough it takes to make passive safety. I've had a C&D subscription for about 20 years straight. R&T off and on for that time. And never, not once was there an article that seemed to understand automotive safety.

Unfortunately, the press just does not understand/care that not one of these other manufacturers comes close to having Saab's top to bottom safety record. Saab has proven, along with others, that front wheel drive is a safer platform than rear wheel drive. I much would rather have 20% better safety than 5% better performance any day. Often with a Saab, the safety factor is much more than that, and the performance is equal to or better than a given competitor.

Face it, the auto press thinks front wheel drive belongs on cheap cars, like hatchbacks, even if front wheel drive is the much safer platform. They equate the "thrill and equal weight distribution" of rear wheel drive with money and class. With that kind of mentality, Saab will always lose out. Look at C&D's top ten cars, only three front drivers: Ford Focus, Mazda 6 and Honda Accord. All are modest transportation.
