I'm not sure how relevant it is to model year (or SID type) but one can find reports on clearing manually that work as well as simply waiting for the message to clear.
On my '99 (with a newly installed SID unit) I couldn't clear when it came on. It simply went away after a certain number of starts (for the life of me I can't remember... Must be getting older...). I poked through the leagues of info here on SAABNET to find the hold & reset routine which didn't work on mine.
The TownsendImport folks list a TSB (look on page for 381-1934) on how to clear too. Might double check what you're doing manually against the TSB they list.
If no success after the TSB method I guess you could simply keep a close watch on things and see if it clears like mine did. I would be leary of this knowing that the dealer tried to clear via the TechII though as that is the fool proof method. Maybe get a second opinion if you have another dealer in close proximity?
