Our '99 came with 205/50-16, which matches the 195/60-15s (& 185/65-15s) diameter Saab's had as a "stock" size for years (decades?). Is your odometer/speedometer calibrated for 195/65-15s? If so, the 205/55-16s will be a closer match, size-wise.
I agree with plum, for performance handling you want the 50-series tires. They won't be as comfortable as the 55s, but they'll "track" better (my wife doesn't like this characteristic). They'll be a couple of pounds lighter, so they'll accelerate a touch faster. And most feel the "thinner" (from the side) look is better. Just remember to keep 'em inflated somewhere in the 40-something range, rather than the 30-something range that you're used to with standard tires.
