Well I duno about the grooves much, if it was really bad I might be worried, but some smaller ones are no biggy, and since you’re stopping ok, prolly nothing to worry about.
As for $600 to fix.... er, find a new shop, or have a little weekend project.
Even if you have to get all new pads and rotors that should only cost about $300 total (that’s from eeuroparts.com) And chances are you can get your current rotors "turned" somewhere (most auto parts stores or brake shops do it for like $10 a rotor) then your looking at like $185
Should only be 1-2 hr's of labor, maybe even less at a brake place. Sooo.. Unless they are worth $150/hr I would say you should be able to find someone cheaper.
Thats my $0.02 cents anyway.
