I'm familiar with the nice burble you speak of in the classic 900T, it sounds great and very distinct.
I've had the Saab stainless sport exaust on now for two years. I installed it in late summer and it sounded great. Over the winter months with the colder dense air it sounded louder and after the packing was finally broken in it was slightly louder. My wife noticed the exhaust note increase right away and asked what was wrong. After I explained to her that I installed a stainless exhaust that will never need replacing she understood (worked the sales angle, but forgot to tell her the original exhaust was fine).
Your probably wondering how loud it now is. The car is not objectionable, but if started and let idle to warm up, you definately know it's running from inside the house. Cabin noise is louder and drone is slight at highway speeds. It has a low mellow rumble to it, not the crackily tinny noise of some Japanese cars, definately not ricer sounding.
It sounds best in the summer on a hard 3rd geat pull with the windows down.
Happy Saabing
