Not using the A/C compressor is likely to cause leaks and ultimate failure. Using the ECON setting occasionally isn't what's going to matter. Leaving it in ECON for excessive periods of time, months at a time, is likely to promote seal, gasket and compressor failure. The sooner an A/C problem is fixed, the cheaper it is. If all the freon leaks out the it's much more likely for contaminates to get in the system and screw other things up. A normally functioning A/C system needs no maintenance for the life of the vehicle. Like keeping a car started, the A/C system needs it's exercise. I'm not sure turning it on once a month is really enough. The other side of that pancake is that you can't wear the A/C system out. And constant use keeps you abreast of leakes and failures.
