As I posted before, I visited FC Kerbeck in Palmyra, NJ this evening to see a specific salesperson about a specific car...
I arrived 10 minutes early for our appointment. As my wife and I walked in, we were greeted by the usual pack of salespeople. When we asked for the person with whom we had our appointment, we were told that he simply "wasn't there." No other excuse was given. Not even "it's his day off."
Next: the car that we had driven to see was also missing: "we sold it yesterday..." we were told. 2nd strike, given that the person we were to meet committed to calling me if the car was sold.
Next, the cars. When I called to make the appointment, they told me that they had one car that fit our requirements (the one that they ended up "selling") . When we got to the lot, we were confronted with 2 cars that fit our requirements (neither of which was mentioned to me on the phone) and both were in pretty sad shape. They were dirty inside and out, and both cars had lots of little things wrong with them (broken wipres, misaligned headlights, etc) that should have been remedied in the certification process. Despite this, they were marked "Saab Certified". We were not impressed.
Out of curiosity (and to guage the market) we talked about price. We discussed a 99 9-3 with 40,000, no leather, auto, sunroof, scarab green with beige velour. They wanted $17,000 and would not budge a penny. When discussing outr trade (VW Jetta), they were WAY below even my most conservative estimate for what we could get. And, as I said above, they were absolutely unwilling to move on either number. Carfax (they gave me the report) revealed that the car has been sitting on their lot since April 02. With negotiation like that, I'm not surprised.
Needless to say, we walked out and won't be going back.
We noticed one funny thing, too. As we were waiting for the numbers guy to crunch the numbers, a cople in their mid-40's walked in and asked to see 9-5's. They were told to wait for the guy who was dealing with us, as he was "the Saab guy." They waited around for a bit, but ended up leaving before we did. This, of course, sounds exactly like what happened to you, Chris.
Anyway, I was forewarned...
Thanks for all of the feedback.
