I have installed K&N, JR, and ITG drop-in air filters in NG900 airboxes. I must same I agree a bit with Dean. The K&N #33-2663 (10.94 x 6.25 x 1.19 thick) recommended for the NG900 is slightly wider than the K&N #33-2166 (10.94 x 6.13 x 1.13 thick) recommended for the 9^3 (except Viggen).
Both seem to fit the NG900/9^3 new airboxes just fine. As the plastic airbox ages they often distort, especuially by bowwing out in the middle. This can make getting a good seal with the narrower K&N filter a bit harder. So pick the filter you wish to use and simply pay attention to keeping a good seal with the airbox.
