But you also have to realize that water that puddles between cracks and gaps in your car can possibly freeze and expand. The expansion of water is more forceful than the strongest steel. door seals are an obvious and easily visible issue that will occur within weeks or months (water leaks in the spring). However, many people won't see a problem with other water damage because they won't connect the damage caused by gaps created by freezing water, which may be small (door doesn't close as "nice" as before, door handle is a little stiff, etc..) Another problem is that you may wash the salt INTO places not normally expecting salt.(not anticipated by automotive design engineers) Of course, these places are generally behind the outer surface so you won't see it until years later.
My recommendation is that do wash the car to get rid of the salt and grime, but use a bucket and sponge instead of a spray type wash. The more powerful and thorough the spray, the more water gets between the nooks and crannies.
The rust damage that occurs due to salt in the winter are the most agressive when its warmer. When its 20F outside, theres not much corrosion. Its when it warms up in spring (and I guess if you park in a warm garage) that the corrosion is most agressive. (generally speaking, higher temperature = higher corrosion rate) If you park outside, don't wash your car until spring. If you park regularly in a garage...then wash, but take care in not getting the car too wet.
