Front or rear brakes?
Automatics put a load on the brakes at idle. 5 speed boxes in neutral do not. That groan is not a surprise to me. I have 'heard/felt' that with many vehicles. I don't know if alternate pads will toitally eliminate that. Often the degree os such vibration is variable with how you use the brakes. This us not the same as brake squeal.
How many miles/years on the rotors?
Too bad that you don't do your own brake work, this is the bigest part of DIY savings and one of the easier DIY jobs too.
I had EBC greeenstuff pads on my 95SET and fitted to my new 9-5 at 160 miles. Very little brake dust as well. There are some other pads that folks recomment as well. No cold/wet complaints from me with the EBC pads on either vehicle. One always needs to anticipate wet brakes and do some drying brake action to determine the character of the brakes. So that means early braking in case you need that. If the brake seem normal, get off the petal and then brake at normal distances etc.
