Can't resolve this squeek: presumed timing belt pulley Posted by Ryan [Email] (#2222) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ryan) on Mon, 20 Jan 2003 23:52:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I just got back from a visit to the dealer to replace a timing belt pulley and pulley tensioner, and I STILL have the same problem as before: a squeek that CLEARLY sounds to root to a timing belt pulley. I did not replace the belt though I will within a year. The squeek sounds to be that of a rotating pully with a constant RPM. The squeek does not change in frequency with throttle. Some observations (some may be coincidental):
- most always heard in cold weather when I start the car
- usually settles down or stops when the car is in normal motion
- most often begins again when I shift to neutral
- once or twice has changed in frequency poportional to the amount of pressure I give the break. The more the pressure, the louder the squeek.
This is somewhat of a suttle squeek, but it is driving me crazy. The caviot: the car was in for its last warranty visit a few days before the warranty expired. The pulley and pulley tensioner were out of stock, so they gave me the repair for free a week later when the parts came in. Now I am hesitant to go back to the the dealer for this (same) problem because I would imagine they would want to charge me for the visit, diagnosis, and parts. Hell, they want to charge me $40 to install the rear emblem that turned into a silver disc last week. This squeek has me worried of a 500+ repair.
