Sounds to be the timing belt pulley or pulley tensioner. Are you sure its only 1/2 second here and there? If this is really the case, bag the pulley tensioner idea. Change your cricket sound to a wisk broom sound and would assume that you are hearing a solenoid in the hood energizing. This sound *does* happen sporatically and lasts 1/2 sec or less. It is a perfectly normal sound, but a sound that a driver/passenger should not hear. In my opinion, poor engineering.
