I had the same problem this winter. I was not able to get the parking brake to release. The car would go forward but not backwards. My 99 9-2SE ended up taking a ride on a flatbed to the local Saab garage. They ended up putting in a new cable. The only good thing about it is that it was covered under warranty. I have not had any further trouble in the 7 to -4 (f) weather we have been having up in Maine.
