shift light disable

brought my '99 conv. to dealer for an oil change (expensive, i know) and some tech II programming. i haven't picked the car up yet, but the technician said he was able to do everything i asked except disable shift light. he was a pleasure to deal with and seemed knowledgable,, but when i asked about the shift light, he immediately claimed he didn't think it could be done. when he called this morning to let me know the car was ready, he said he looked into it, but the light was part of the "loading signal" or something, so it couldn't be turned off.
otherwise he supposedly disabled drls (so i can work headlights and foglights indepently), and--and the is a HUGE one--disabled chime when door is open with key in ignition. this is will increase my overall enjoyment of the vehicle many-fold!
i think they also changed the battery in my key fob. all this for a half hour labor (on top of 65$ oil change), which i was hoping they may just toss in--that's why i went to dealer for oil change. anyway, shift light doesn't really bother me, and if everything else is correct, i guess it was worth it.
