I have used the stuff and gotten it on my hands and clothes. My wife didn't want me in the house (or near her) until I took a LONG shower and dealt with the dirty clothes. Bottom line, you'll suffer with pretty nasty fumes if you use the stuff in the passenger cabin.
Can you take the switch apart? Clean the contact points with light sand paper, or maybe try some conductive tuneup grease.
