The blades are fine, I bet your windshield has a residue on it, even if you cant see it. Have you ever brought your car through an automatic carwash that applies wax? That theory number one.
I get it frequently from oil, etc on the fine NJ highways around my place. And the road salt doesn't help either. I've also drivn behind folks who had a colant leak - I could smell it, and the windshield was nasty.
First, buy some alcohol - 90%, from the drugstore. Rub it on the windshield, and dry off. Then, clean the windsheild with ammonia based cleaner - try 3 caps of ammonia in a quart spray bottle; fill the rest with water. Use newpaper for cleaning the windshield, BTW - the paper and newsprint really makes it sparkle.
