I got the chance to drive my brother's 9-3SS last night for the first time in a while. Here are my thoughts/comments for what it's worth.

(-) Minuses:

(-) Earlier in the evening I had asked him if he had any issues with stalling as I have read about on this board. He said no, that the car has performed flawlessly. Well, as luck would have it, the car died for me as I was driving down (fortunately) a residential street. I was able to restart it after putting it in park and removing the key from the ignition.

(-) The SID would freeze in certain menus, not allowing me to go back to the main one until I restarted the car.

(-) The controls for the radio using the knob are a bit overly complex, but as I have put in a plus below, you can use the telephone keypad as presets which is good.

(-) The car has uneven power. It surges at times and seems to be weak at others. Maybe it doesn't have enough miles on it yet... I don't know. The power just doesn't seem to be smooth flowing.

(-) I have to agree that some parts of the dash and car do feel cheap.

(+) Plusses

(+) When I got in his car, I noticed that the clock was horribly off (my brother isn't too attentive to stuff like that). So I went into the profiler, went to clock, and selected RDS time or something like that. It automatically set the clock to Radio Data System time. That's a really cool feature, I was really impressed.

(+) The key is cool. I like not having a metal key that sticks you when you put it in your pocket. The fob is really nice looking. Halo lighting is also cool.

(+) Great drive, great handling. A nice car that makes you feel like you are in total control. Classic Saab.

(+) 6-disc in dash CD changer. Really nice and fairly easy to use.

(+) 3 stage heated seats. Better than the previous 9-3 when there was only one stage.

(+) Great Xenon lights. Really light up what's ahead of you well.

(+) Nice customization using the profiler. I really like that.

(+) The high-positioned SID is nice and helps keep your eyes on the road.

(+) Some people have commented on the steering wheel buttons being bad, but I think they work fine and are well placed.

Overall, the new 9-3 is a great car. Yes, it has some flaws and issues, but I have all confidence that Saab will fix them in the 2004 model.
