You're concerned about any long, slow, gentle cleaning the syn oil may cause, but you have no reservations about shock-treatment-cleaning the engine with an agressive cleaner? I think you're more likely to get clogging chunks flaked off from a heavy-duty cleaner than you are with the detergents in syn oil.
Don't get me wrong; I've heard good things about Amsoil's engine flush (although I've never used it). I've heard better things about Auto-Rx (linked below; also never used it). It's in-between relying solely on the detergents in the oil, & flooding the engine with a cleaner (it takes 500-750 miles to clean out the crud). If you click on "Application Instructions" you'll find everything from normal to severe treatments, depending on engine condition & type.
