I would like to share my head gasket replacement, since it seems to be a popular topic.

I bought my 1999 9-3 in November. The car was off-lease and had 46k on the clock. I noticed a little oil seepage from the gasket when I bought the car. From the cars I'd looked at and what I'd read here, I figured this was a common problem, plus I had the balance of the factory warranty.

Last week, I made an appointment at Charles River Saab to have the head gasket and a few other things looked at. I was prepared to argue for a new gasket, but I didn't need to. They called me up and told me they needed to change the gasket- no questions asked and covered 100% under warranty.

I dropped the car off on Monday and by Tuesday morning, they had changed the head gasket, a leaky power steering line, timing chain tensioner, and lubed my bushings (frozen suspension syndrome- cured!!) They also replaced a non-functional remote and washed the car. The only cost to me was $52 for a new serp belt.

Charles River Saab was great. They even gave me a 2003 covertible for a loaner. Every option, including 17-inch wheels! I was impressed by the performance with the automatic transmission.

That was my experience with the leaky head gasket. Apparently, Saab has no problem changing head gaskets under warranty. So bring your cars in and get that gasket replaced!
