Absorbing Energy

The Stongard product is sort of like a transparent, rubbery film, about 1/8" thick. When a rock flies up and hits a lens covered by Stongard, the energy is absorbed by the Stongard. When a rock flies up and hits an unprotected lens, the energy is absorbed by the lens, resulting often in a broken lens.
The Stongard doesn't actually absorb ALL the energy...it absorbs some of it, and spreads out the rest over the entire surface of the lens. The spreading out of the energy means that there's not enough energy imparted to any particular area of the lens to break it. By contrast, if a rock hits an unprotected lens, all the energy goes into a small area of the lens, and may be sufficient to damage that area.
Think of it as a transparent pad.
