I can't directly answer your question, but I have some info that might be helpful. I came from the DSM world (Diamond Star Motors - basically, 89-99 Mitsu. Eclipses, Eagle Talons, and Plymout Lasers) before I bought my Saab, which had several cars on the same platform. The Eclipse came in GSX trim (AWD/Turbo), and GS-T trim (FWD, Turbo). Since the convertible models (Eclipse Spyders) only came in FWD, there was a good bit of interest in converting them to AWD, which was a relatively straightforward process since parts from the GSX coupes were easy to come by and pretty much just fit. In other words, even though the floor pans needed to be massaged to make it work, you were still working with parts from the same manufacturer, made to fit your car. One company, Road Race Engineering, has converted a few Spyders, and I believe the cost was in the $5000 range.
So I would imagine that taking a 9-3ss, which I don't believe shares a platform with any other AWD cars, and custom-fitting an AWD system, would be considerably more expensive than that, if you wanted a quality job. Considering the appeal of AWD is superior handling and performance, it would be even more difficult to make the suspension and everything else work properly, in a way that's actually high performance.
