Crack(ing) does horrible things to one's 9-3 foglights.
I can give my one good foglight to my Dad, (same year 9-3) who has two bad ones. This way, he's out only the $120 or so from eEuroparts, and I'm out only the $130 or so for new Hellas; he has a working set of stock lamps and I have a set of 'upgrades.'
Otherwise, I spend $120 to get back to stock lighting, and the paternal unit spends $240 for the same.
I've learned that the euro foglight hole covers are about $35/pr. Even adding this (and time) to the hellas, the 'alternative' solution seems like a better bang for the buck. Especially as the hellas are smaller, hence less prone to impact. I can get the Dad to pick up some stongard (or whichever brand is appropriate) film to cover my new lights, his stock lights, and both of our fogs.
In related news, I'm thinking of giving my stock headlights to the Dad so that he can address his 'bullet' hole in the lens, and I can upgrade to E-codes. (free to him, $350 or so to me, and we both have better headlights as a result).
Uncharacteristically socialist? Nah, just post-hoc rationalization working overtime.
