I know this is obvious, but it really is just a matter of what you want!
The Dawes Device is flexible enough to support a wide variety of boosts. I don't have a fancy-pants exhaust to keep my EGT down (yet), and I drive on a lot of slippery roads. However, I do enjoy the increased responsiveness and spool-up rate of the MBC. I installed mine in line with the BPC, set to about 0.45 bar in my 1999 SE HOT... this satisfies MY particular compromise... prevents wastegate creep, and gives a nice initial throttle response, while letting the BPC control and smooth out higher boost levels. Very friendly on the street and in snow storms.
I started with the MBC set to its loosest setting (boost will be about 7 psi), and slowly cranked it up. I used a bike pump and a boost gauge to get readings on the settings where I noticed a change, and scribbled comments in my field notebook (I'm a well-indoctrinated field biologist). Just fiddle with the MBC until you can say: "wow, I like this compromise between gut-wrenching super-exhilerating full-on turbo and knock-safe smoothed out BPC goodness." That will be your street setting!
Best,
Lutfisk
